MECLA Spotlight on a New Roadmap for Australia's Bamboo Future
In September 2026, the Bamboo Society of Australia, Standards Australia, and Deloitte came together to explore the development of a nationally competitive Australian bamboo industry, from crop to construction specification.
The session highlighted the need for a clear industry roadmap, strong economic evidence, and appropriate standards across the bamboo value chain. It brought together perspectives on how bamboo can contribute to low-carbon construction, restore degraded land, strengthen regional economies, and support a sustainable future for Australia.
Presentations covered:
- Bamboo Society of Australia’s 10-year industry roadmap for the Australian bamboo industry
- Deloitte’s economic analysis informing the roadmap
- Standards Australia’s new Bamboo Standards Report
- Opportunities for bamboo across construction, materials, agriculture, sustainability, investment, and regional development
- The role of bamboo in Australia’s low-carbon future
